Formula Keyboard Shortcuts

Methodox Formula answers the keys below. The first tables are the menu commands that have a key, generated from the window itself; the later ones are the keys of the grid, the cell being edited and the sheet tabs. Every menu shows its item's key beside it, and hovering over a toolbar button shows its name.

Editing a cell

Key What it does

Ctrl+Enter A line break inside the cell
Esc Cancel the edit
F4 Cycle the reference under the caret through $A$1, A$1, $A1 and A1

← → ↑ ↓ while typing a formula Point at a cell; with Shift, at a range
Ctrl+Backspace Ctrl+Delete Delete a word
Ctrl+Z Ctrl+Y Undo or redo inside the cell

In the formula bar, Enter confirms, Esc cancels and F4 cycles references in the same way. In the Name Box, Enter goes to the name or reference typed, or defines a new name for the selection.

Mouse

Gesture What it does

In the SQL Workbench, Ctrl+Enter or F5 runs the statement.

Not yet: Ctrl+Page Up and Ctrl+Page Down do not change sheets, Tab does not move to the next cell, Ctrl+Shift+Enter does not enter an array formula (spilling formulas do not need it), and there are no keys for selecting a whole row or column.

In the Scripts pane

Tools ▸ Scripts (Alt+F11) opens the script editor under the document. While the editor has the keyboard, its own keys win over the window's: Ctrl+F searches the script rather than the document, and Ctrl+D deletes a line.

Enter Tab Accept a completion; Esc closes the list
Tab Shift+Tab Indent or unindent by two spaces
Ctrl+D Delete the line
