Methodox Wallpaper Generator

Methodox Wallpaper Generator renders desktop wallpapers procedurally. Not from a library of images - there are no images inside the program. Each generator is a piece of code that paints a scene from a width, a height, a seed and a handful of settings, so the same seed gives you the same picture at any resolution, on any machine, forever.

Wallpaper Generator overview

Three things to choose

The window provides a simple view with three columns.

  1. Generator, in the rail on the left. Each card carries a live thumbnail of that generator's own output rather than an icon standing in for it.
  2. Output size, in the row beneath the preview. Eight named sizes rather than two number boxes.
  3. Options for the selected generator, on the right - five to seven controls, plus the seed and one Save button.

The preview shows the final wallpaper; changing anything re-renders it; the button underneath writes it to disk.

The generators

The five generators

v0.1 exposes five of the pieces in Divooka.Graphics.ProceduralArts.

Generator What it draws Controls
City Skyline A downtown cluster of towers after dark, lit windows in seven colour temperatures, and a lake that gives most of it back. Time of night, foreground, building density, lit windows, cloud cover, moon, retro dither
Aurora Tundra An arctic valley under hanging aurora curtains, with a frozen river carrying the sky's colour down between the ridges. Aurora strength, curtains, stars, spruce, river reflection, pixel texture
Floating Isles Islands over a layered cloud sea, waterfalls pouring off their undersides into nothing. Sun position, distant islands, cloud cover, waterfalls, birds, pixel texture
Crystal Cavern A drowned chamber of polygonal crystal clusters, lit from an opening you never see. Crystal glow, clusters, rock islets, water level, reflection, pixel texture
Wild Dunes A wind-carved dune field, ray-cast with real cast shadows. Sun elevation, dune height, wildness, wind ripples, scrub, pixel texture

Output sizes

Name Pixels Notes
360p 640 x 360 A quick look before committing to a big render
720p 1280 x 720
1080p 1920 x 1080 The default
1440p 2560 x 1440
4K 3840 x 2160 The ceiling for the stylised environments
8K 7680 x 4320 City Skyline only
Ultrawide 3440 x 1440 The common 21:9 panel
Phone 1170 x 2532 A modern phone lock screen

The actual available resolution depends on the generator.

Seeds

Every generator is a pure function of (width, height, seed, settings):

  • Shuffle picks a new seed, which is the only thing that changes between two otherwise identical pictures.
  • The seed is written into the saved file name - AuroraTundra-2560x1440-seed20260830.png - so a folder of wallpapers is a folder you can regenerate any of them from, at a different size, months later.

Renders take roughly one to three seconds at 1080p and scale with the pixel count from there. The preview is rendered at the size it is displayed at, so what you see while dragging a slider is the wallpaper at 1:1 rather than a resampled approximation of it.

Output is 8-bit PNG.
